Low desert rose

Gossypium bickii

Family: Malvaceae

Small, frost sensitive spreading shrub to 50cm high and 1m wide. Pretty pink-mauve flowers with a deep red base appear in summer.

Grows in red earths to clays, often in mulga or open shrublands and grasslands. Occurs in Central Australia from the Tanami Desert, lower Barkly Tablelands to just east of Mount Isa.

Where to find this plant at Alice Springs Desert Park

Good examples can be found in the visitor centre courtyard and scattered throughout the Woodland habitat.
