Panicum decompositum
Family: Poaceae
Short lived perennial grass growing to 70cm in height with bluish-green leaves.
The large, open seed heads detach from the plant when mature and get blown around in the wind, effectively spreading the seed.
A very common grass, it is usually found where there is a higher water availability in the soil. It looks best after summer rains and grows prolifically after fire.
The seed produced by this plant was an important food source for local Aboriginal people. It was winnowed, ground, mixed with water and cooked to make an unleavened bread.

Found in the Desert Rivers, Sand Country and Woodland habitats.
