Acacia victoriae
Family: Fabaceae
Prickly tall shrub which can reach 4 to 5m in height. Masses of globular yellow flowers appear in spring. The pale green phyllodes (modified leaves) have two spiny stipules at the base.
The pods contain edible seeds which were roasted while still green. The harder mature seeds are ground prior to eating. Aboriginal people also ate a white gum which exudes from the trunk. Edible grubs can also be found in the roots.
Can be grown from seed treated with boiling water.
Where to find this plant at Alice Springs Desert Park
Very common on the greater site of the Desert Park and can be found throughout the Desert Rivers and Woodland habitats.
